What is a disability?

I’ve been lucky to know ppl on every spectrum of life. The one that made me think the most was about ppl with disabilities.

The truth is that the word “disability” implies some accepted model for the abled. So those of us who seem different are by virtue of that model not abled.

It seems to me there is a fundamental acceptance that there is a group of people we can point to as sub human because we want to refuse them common courtesy.

I have never really had a significant problem talking to a deaf person. Never had an issue communicating with people who don’t even speak English. Seem to be easily understood by bling people.

It seems the abled just want an excuse to make a point that some of us don’t deserve to have simple things explained to them.

Alberta’s moves to cut funding for the “disabled” reveals that this province has perhaps killed its fundamental humanity. I’ll wear that star any day.
