The mental health bullshit we dont need right now
Honestly- there is like nothing white ppl find that they dont want to “fix” into fucking up. this is about western therapy.
im very pro-mental health. and what i mean by that is, pro resilience and empowerment. ive had alot of challenges growing up- we all have. but i was extremely lucky. i have the most wonderful parents in the world. and my parents made two things clear to me from a young age:
- Never be embarrassed or shamed of something you didnt do.
- Irrespective of what happened, hold ur head up high and overcome it.
These two lessons served me to live in the extremely racist and sexist world we find ourselves in today.
ive done my fair share of dumb shit. and when i knew i was feeling shame, i would return to the above two questions. and if it was my fault, i did exactly what my parents made me do when i was a kid:
- apologize
- accept responsibility
- work to earn forgiveness
it didnt matter if the other person was open to returning to the former relationship. i still had to make amends as respectfully and as privately as possible. it had nothing to do with them accepting my apology. because u can never give back to someone what you take when you hurt them.
the best you can hope for is an evolution of the relationship.
