Autism 101- a beginners guide
Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, and autism is a spectrum condition. no two people in the world have the same experience. However i believe people who can speak for themselves should be educating others on their neuro-bio-divergence. this is only my account and journey. i offer it to you, incase someone needs it to check on themselves.
I had no idea what autism was for years. but i have this rule, if i dont understand something i try to learn about it. a few years ago autism became this thing. this disease ppl had and i was watching one of the late night shows. and i think it was a mother-father team who first published the book in japanese and then it was translated into english.
First and foremost, i would like to thank Naoki Higashida, K.A. Yoshida and David Mitchell for giving voice to the inside world of a very brave kid. The Reason I Jump- was pioneering. And i shared no symptoms with the young man, so i never considered that i had it. that is likely due to the fact that men and women are socialized differently. and women r expected to tolerate alot of pain in society.
whenever i asked people to “turn down the volume”, “dim the lights” or “talk low”- i was the troubled child. the worst part about this is that i am from the punjabi sikh culture and im very proud of it. however, never was there a punjabi man who did not enjoy a boisterous hello and pat on the back for pride. i grew up with people yelling. and i have acoustic synesthesia.
